Designing a crocheted item is a very creative process. Even if you have a "shaped" idea (as you think) still it can turn into anything else in practice. And here is an example. It should have been a star but it turned out to be something completely different. Another mandala, actually. And a nice decoration for a pillow cover, I think. The test is finished already and this “Mint Coffee Mandala” pattern is available in Etsy and Ravelry shops!
I've recently discovered few new colors (for me) in the Superlana Klasik line by Alize – mint and milk coffee brown and I love how these colors match together. They can be also accompanied with ruby and dark turquoise and I am trying this combination at the moment while designing new square motif. Hopefully I could show it to you very soon.
This mandala can be used in many ways. It can serve as a potholder and when not used in the kitchen it can be hanged on a wall. But it can also be a nice decoration for old (or new) pillow cover; it can also serve as a decoration for a table – just a small trivet, or become a nice appliqué for fabric bag. Though consisting only of one layer it is quite thick due to huge amount of front post stitches.
I wrote a pattern for two sizes. The size of finished mandala always depends on the chosen yarn and hook. If mandala is getting too large it can be easily transformed into a smaller potholder: you just need to skip few last rounds and this is explained in the pattern.
To be honest, I consider this mandala the best thing I’ve designed by now. I felt so much of creative energy as if I was connected directly to the space, and it took me just one day to finish it. I am really pleased with the result.
I've decorated two pillowcases with “Mint Coffee Mandala” and they can be found in my Etsy shop. Welcome!
