Linen Soft is a very universal yarn which can be used for a wide variety of projects. It consists of 27% linen, 47% cotton and 26% acrylic. And this composition makes it to be very practical and easy to take care of. Projects made with this yarn are machine washable at 40 degrees (though I would still prefer delicate hand wash in cold water, as for all handmade things). There is high percentage of cotton and acryl, but still the yarn is very “linen” in its appearance and touch.
Linen is known to be a bit rough fiber but again thanks to presence of cotton and acryl the yarn stays soft. But at the same time it doesn’t have the same softness as pure wool or acrylic. So I would not choose Linen Soft for making sweaters or other garments. But its structure and composition makes this yarn ideal for home decorations and accessories, such as crocheted blankets, pillow covers, and bags.
Linen Soft is a stiff yarn with no fluffiness, and it’s a good choice for overlay crochet, cabling or simple and clear patterns. This yarn is available in 33 gorgeous shades and they are quite enough to create any color combinations you can think of. You can have a look at the color range and order this yarn via Scheepjes (ships to NL), Deramores* and Wool Warehouse* (international shipping) or Paradise Fibers* (US).
As other yarns produced by Scheepjes, Linen Soft has a label inside each ball marked as “Easy Start”. So you can with no problem find an inside yarn tail and start crocheting with two strands, if you wish. Though I personally prefer to use only “outside” tail for crochet. I am very afraid that yarn can become knotty as the ball isgetting smaller in the process of crochet, and then it would be tricky to handle it.
I choose 5 shades of gray and natural beige for my new project as I am thinking of creating something with ombre effect. But I am pretty sure I would love to try other shades in the future. I just love combination of dark brown, purple and mustard.

you chose a nice color combination, I like it and i'm looking forward to see the new project. I have only worked with cotton8 from scheepjes.
ReplyDeleteAnd I haven't tried Cotton 8. But as far as I like cotton in general, no doubt I would like this yarn, too. I have one skein to try...
DeleteScheepjes Linen Soft was very easy to work with and made a lovely shawl doing their CAL Flight of Fancy. I can't wait to make something else with it. My daughter does lap weaving and loves using the Linen for that as well.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you are going to make!
Jane, I have a clear idea of what I want to make :) I hope it will work well. I will show the progress picturess soon!
